Whats the best bait and lure for Sea Bass fishing?

I’ve been told Lugworm is good with a plug or spinner, but I’d like a second opinion.
Fishing from the east coast of Scotland.

Chosen Answer:

There are lots of bass in the sea, and more fish called “bass” which aren’t really bass. They all eat all sorts of things, from sardines, anchovies, mackerel, and other fish, to squid, worms, mussels, crabs, shrimp, and so on, plus a bunch of different types of artificials. If you say where you’re fishing, you might get a useful answer.

ADD: Scotland? I haven’t got a clue.

Chosen Answer:

Same way with a spincast, or baitcasting reel. Simple cast & retrieve motion (With occasional pauses for giving that injured minnow look.). But, anybody will tell you spinnerbaits are the easiest baits to use. If you can turn a reel handle, you can fish a bass spinnerbait.

Banjo Minnow i don’t know about. Watch the DVD or look it up on Google (OR don’t use it, it’s too complicated for me LOL!)

Happy fishing.

These can be used anywhere and are very versatile. Try fishing them in cover, along the bank, and on overcast days, just throw them straight out and rel them up fast.

Roostertail

I usually fish these along rocky banks, or use them when trolling.

Beetlespin

I use these in shady areas and around logs and stumps.

Rocket Shad

Throw this one anywhere it won’t get hung up and hold on.

Mr. Crappie crappie jigs

Fish around cover with these and if there are crappie, they will bite it.

During the hot part of the summer, Fish early in the morning (sunrise to 10AM) and late in the evening (7PM to 10PM). Right before a bad thunderstorm is the best time to catch fish. Full moon works good, too.Early spring try fishing noon to late evening. Fall, whenever the suns up. Winter, any time you can get out without freezing to death.

What kind of spinners work best in the winter months?

I am a massive fan of Mepps spinners and I find them very productive lures to use during the warmer months of the year, however when the winter arrives and the temperature plummets I really struggle to catch pike and perch on the spinner in the winter.

After doing some quick research, the general consensus about winter lure fishing here in the UK where I live, is that the best way to fish is very deep and very slow. The problem is that although it is possible to retrieve a spinner very deep, it is not really possible to retrieve a spinner slowly as this tends to stops the spinner blade from rotating properly.

I love using spinners, but last winter was so unproductive on the spinner that it became a bit soul destroying, so if anyone has any ideas about good pike/perch spinners to use during the winter months, then it would be much appreciated.

Chosen Answer:

Pike etc are much more sluggish in the winter, so don’t use spinners. Use slow sinking lures that can be retrieved very slowly. I love Savage Gear 4Play lures. If the water is coloured, use bright colours to increase visibility.

I never have as much regular sucess with lures in the winter as I do in the summer, although I have had a few absolutely dynamite days. You are certainly going to have blank days.

One thing you may want to try to increase your chances when going out with your rods for a walk on a winter’s day is also to take a deadbait float rod with you. When you find a likely looking spot sling out the lures a few times. If you have no joy then lob in the float setup and give it 15 minutes. If you still have no success, then move on. Combining the two methods doubles your chances.

What is the best fishing knot to tie bass lures (Rapala, crank bait, spinner bait, etc) to the line?

Is it better NOT to use a swivel clasp and tie the lure directly on the line?

Chosen Answer:

The Surgeon’s Loop. It allows the lure to maintain it’s natural motion and not be stuck in one place which will get you more strikes. I’ll leave a website to show how to tie that and other knots. Good luck fishin’!

what type of bass fishing lure do you like the best and which one works the best?

i want to buy bass lures becausse i dont want to keep spending my money on bait everytime i go fishing. what bass lures work the best? ive use spinner bait and plastic worm but i dont seem to catch anything. what type of lures work the best for bass or pike? and if you have a picture of the lure then that would be great cuz i want to see what im trying to buy at the store.

Chosen Answer:

Topwater lures have some good results. Diving crank plugs also work well. Topwater lures and rubber baits work best in shallow water in morning and evening, while divers and spinners work best in afternoon. So, you may have the right stuff, but bad presentation and time of use can prevent you from getting results. Also, old rubber worms smell artificial and unappealing, so make sure your rubber baits have scent on them. So my favorite is whatever works that day, but I really like topwater lures and rubber baits, so my best fishing is in the morning.

Sorry, no pics, but anyone in the store should know what you are talking about. I would recommend actually shopping in a sporting goods store, because their employees should know what they are talking about (Beware, they have proven this theory incorrect before).

Good luck!

whats the best spinner bait for bass?

i fish mostly in shallow dark watered ponds with lots of cover

Chosen Answer:

I tend to have a different experience with the spinner baits then other posters. In My area I have found that on different years, the bite will vary greatly from one brand of spinner bait to the other. I can only assume it is due to the different vibrations each lure gives out, or something in the design of the bait that for some reason the bass are attracted to it a little more then other brands. 3 years ago A Strike King 1 ounce spinner bait with chartreuse and white skirt was the hottest spinner bait in the entire complex. For the last 2 years the best spinner bait is the Humdinger, in a variety of colors. They are a dirt cheap lure that is flying off the shelves so fast stores can’t keep them in stock. Next year it may be another brand. While all spinner baits will catch fish, there are some years that a certain brand may be “magic” for that year. For your particular situation I would go with a humdinger with a crawfish colored skirt. In 1 ounce size.
