Spinnerbait

These can be used anywhere and are very versatile. Try fishing them in cover, along the bank, and on overcast days, just throw them straight out and rel them up fast.

Roostertail

I usually fish these along rocky banks, or use them when trolling.

Beetlespin

I use these in shady areas and around logs and stumps.

Rocket Shad

Throw this one anywhere it won’t get hung up and hold on.

Mr. Crappie crappie jigs

Fish around cover with these and if there are crappie, they will bite it.

During the hot part of the summer, Fish early in the morning (sunrise to 10AM) and late in the evening (7PM to 10PM). Right before a bad thunderstorm is the best time to catch fish. Full moon works good, too.Early spring try fishing noon to late evening. Fall, whenever the suns up. Winter, any time you can get out without freezing to death.

What kind of spinners work best in the winter months?

I am a massive fan of Mepps spinners and I find them very productive lures to use during the warmer months of the year, however when the winter arrives and the temperature plummets I really struggle to catch pike and perch on the spinner in the winter.

After doing some quick research, the general consensus about winter lure fishing here in the UK where I live, is that the best way to fish is very deep and very slow. The problem is that although it is possible to retrieve a spinner very deep, it is not really possible to retrieve a spinner slowly as this tends to stops the spinner blade from rotating properly.

I love using spinners, but last winter was so unproductive on the spinner that it became a bit soul destroying, so if anyone has any ideas about good pike/perch spinners to use during the winter months, then it would be much appreciated.

Chosen Answer:

Pike etc are much more sluggish in the winter, so don’t use spinners. Use slow sinking lures that can be retrieved very slowly. I love Savage Gear 4Play lures. If the water is coloured, use bright colours to increase visibility.

I never have as much regular sucess with lures in the winter as I do in the summer, although I have had a few absolutely dynamite days. You are certainly going to have blank days.

One thing you may want to try to increase your chances when going out with your rods for a walk on a winter’s day is also to take a deadbait float rod with you. When you find a likely looking spot sling out the lures a few times. If you have no joy then lob in the float setup and give it 15 minutes. If you still have no success, then move on. Combining the two methods doubles your chances.

What is the best way to reel in a 3/8 oz spinner?

Bass Fishing

Chosen Answer:

Many ways to retrieve a spinner bait.
1 – You can cast it out and just reel it back in.
2 – Kind of hard to burn a 3/8 oz or wake one I use a 1/2 oz for either of those tequnics.
3 – You can cast it out and reel a few feet and then stop it and let it flutter a few feet, reel in again and do the same thing.
4 – You can also do what is called slow rolling, which is make a long cast let it sink to the depth you want and then reel it in just slow enough that you feel the blades turning.
5 – Cast it out and let it sink to the bottom, give it a good rip to get the blades turning then keep it in contact with the bottom.
6 – You can also use the tip of your rod to give the blades a little extra action by twitching your rod tip every so often, this will make the blades flash for a instant, or you can do it for the whole retrieve.
Good luck and have fun.

What is the best kind of rod and line to use for spinner baits when bass fishing?

Spinning rod? Fiberglass baitcasting rod? light? medium? medium/heavy? heavy?

Chosen Answer:

Me personally, I’m not a big spinnerbait kinda guy. I’ll use ‘em occasionally. At night usually. Most of them are between 1/4 ounce and 1/2 ounce. I use anywhere between 8 and 12 pound line with a light to medium-heavy action graphite rod. For the big, Colorado-bladed musky-sized spinnerbait that I have (it weighs about 2 ounces), I use my heavy flippin’ stick with 15 pound mono. I can launch it a good country mile.

I never, ever use a spinnerbait with a spinning rod, not even the small ultralight ones. If I wanna toss a small spinnerbait, I’ll use my dad’s ultralight Pixy outfit. Spinning rods just don’t have the correct action for them. And the reels don’t have the right.. what’s the word? The right… schtick.

What kind of inline spinner would be best to catch a striped bass?

I would like to know all the brand but preferably kastmaster so I can cast further thanks

Chosen Answer:

There’s a species specific “Striper Rooster Tail”, which would work great for them. Get a handful of these — http://www.basspro.com/Wordens-Striper-Rooster-Tail-Lures/product/1734/-281677 in different colors. By the way, Kastmaster’s don’t cast any farther any other similar lure, I believe their name was came to because they originally only made spoons which are heavy, easily castable lures.
